Halloween - a Night for Good and Wicked Witches!
|
|
Kids in witch costumes run rampant on Halloween night! Halloween is the night when all that is dark and evil plods the earth looking to do some mischief! And where there is evil brewing, witches cannot be far behind!
For centuries witches have been known to be in cohorts with the dark forces, casting spells and even landing up as famous characters in many children's stories and fairy tales! The witch who disguised herself as a friendly old lady and gave Snow White the cursed apple, the wicked witch who wanted to eat children in the story of Hansel and Gretel and the Wicked Witch of the West are familiar witches your young children already know and are fascinated with! There are good witches too like Glinda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. Obviously, a witch costume for Halloween is a popular choice for kids.
Wicked witch costumes and witch doctor costumes are old favorites for Halloween. Your child can choose a classic witch costume or be a more modern looking witch! Whatever style you choose, you will need to start with a long black dress and a pointed witch's hat. The classic witch style uses plenty of black layers-skirts upon skirts of old, musty-looking black skirts. You can usually find these at your local thrift shop. A witch's shoes are usually black with buckles. You can buy these at costume stores or buy shoe covers. An old-fashioned broom makes a great accessory to a witch costume. For the face make-up, you can put on some green make up or use a prosthetics to produce a more realistic effect-a crooked nose, wrinkles and warts! Add powder to your hair to give it streaks of gray or use a witch wig to give the classic frenzy witch look.
If your child wants to be a good witch, she can use a tiara instead of a witch's hat. Good witches can color their hair with streaks of pink or add glitter to it. They can wear colorful gowns instead of a black dress and carry a wand instead of a broom.
For witch doctor Halloween costumes paint your child's face with black and white colors. Put on a black body suit or leotards and a grass skirt, an outlandish headgear and a necklace of bones or garlic! Use creative ear rings and nose rings! You can add a voodoo doll as an accessory.
Beware of the witches on Halloween night! Treat them with something special before they decide to trick you!
