Heat pillow - you just pop the pillow in the microwave and it heats up in a matter of minutes. The heat lasts for half an hour or more. The pillow helps to relieve sore and aching muscles. Many contain essential herbs as well. Pillows can be purchased at many health food stores or from a number of on-line retailers. They range in price from $15 for smaller ones to $50 for larger pillows. Along with pillows you can also find other heat items like slippers and special wraps for the back, neck, and shoulders. Photo Items - Every mother loves pictures of her children and grandchildren, so consider buying or making an item involving photographs of her favorite people or pets. You can purchase calendars, t-shirts, bags, mousepads, mugs, and a variety of other items using pictures. Sites like Dotphoto allow you to upload the picture and then choose an item. You can also make your own photo items by photo copying pictures onto special iron-on paper then iron onto a blanket, dishcloth, t-shirt, or fabric bag. A few years ago my sister and I made a quilted wall hanging with pictures of everyone in the family. Chocolates - Chocolate may be named as the most sought after of all Mother’s Day gifts ideas. I don’t know any woman that doesn’t love chocolates. Try buying a small box at a specialty shop. My husband usually picks up a box of mint chocolate truffles for me every year. Flowers - You could buy the traditional vase of cut flowers. But consider buying her a live rose bush or other plant that she could then put in the yard. To make the presentation look spectacular pick up a package of cellophane and some ribbon. Then wrap the cellophane around the plastic pot and tie it on with a ribbon. Magazine Subscription - There are magazines for every interest. Think about what the special woman in your life loves to do and get her a magazine subscription that goes along with her hobby. Pamper items - Most women love to be pampered. Try buying something that she can use to pamper herself bath soaps, scented lotions, candles, or even a new soft bathrobe. You could also buy her a gift certificate to the local spa or to get her nails or hair done. Goodie basket Fill a basket with some of mother’s favorite coffee or tea, along with some cookies, muffins, sweet breads, or muffins. You can buy a ready-made basket or put together one of your own. To make the gift extra special add homemade treats to the basket. Pet items - They say a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and similarly the way to many women’s hearts is through their pet. So pick up an item for her pet. Or buy a pet related item. You can find pictures of dogs, cats, and other animals on things ranging from cookie jars to throw rugs. You might try making an impression of her pet’s paw and framing it along with a picture. Tickets - Consider buying a pair of tickets to a ballet, concert, play, museum, art exhibit, or somewhere else special. Then take your special woman to the event. It will be a night she’ll never forget.
