All kids look forward to Halloween time. The 31st of October is a time for kids to come together either in their neighborhoods for trick or treating or in their schools for a Halloween school party, or at a friend's place for a Halloween spookout! But while your kids enjoy the merriment, there are some safety tips to be considered for kid Halloween costumes. Most houses are decorated with jack-o-lanterns just outside their front doorsteps. These can easily turn into fire hazards. The best safety for your child is to choose kid costumes that are made of inflammable material. Any masks and wigs should also be fire-proof. You will also need to make sure that any accessories that come with your kids costume do not have any rough or sharp edges. Check the length of your child's costume. If it is too long your child may trip over the kid costume. Shoes are an important part of the costume. Avoid high heels and choose shoes which your child is comfortable in.
Make sure that your kids form a group with other kids in your neighborhood for trick or treating. It's a good idea to let older kids chaperone a group of younger kids. Tell the kids that none of them should eat candy on the way. All candy should be inspected at home before giving your kids permission to eat any of it.
You could finish trick-or-treating night with a Halloween party at your home. Plan a spooky event. Even an old-fashioned scary-story telling in the dark still works to give kids the creeps, or try a more modern twist to Halloween by having a costume competition American Idol style! Each kid can have an opportunity to act out the role they are playing in their costume. Appoint judges and have a winner's prize ready!
