Gerber first introduced their baby food products way back in 1928! That's when the Gerber baby began her legendary career spanning 8 decades and still going! Gerber introduced his line of canned baby foods at an age when canned foods were not very popular. Through the help of dieticians and nutritionists, Gerber was able to win the hearts of American mothers and very soon they began to trust their baby's health and nutrition to Gerber baby foods. This was no easy task, but within 6 months, Gerber Baby products had made its way all over America. Today, the Gerber Baby has become a household name the world over.
Do you know who the Gerber baby really is? Rumor and speculation have created quite a controversy! Some think the Gerber baby is Richard Nixon, some think the face is Humphrey Bogart, and some people think it is Sally Gerber, the daughter of Daniel and Dorothy Gerber, founders of the Gerber Company. In 1928, Gerber launched a campaign to search for a baby face for their new line of baby food products. Ann Cook (now? Turner), who was 4 months old at the time, had been sketched by the Turners' neighbor, a commercial artist named Dorothy Smith. Dorothy Smith submitted her simple charcoal drawing to Gerber and the rest, as they say, is history!
