Every fall my family starts a round of cold. This year my child had cold illness
and I was lucky enough to catch it myself. It seems like as soon as the days grow
shorter and colder weather hits the germs start multiplying and my kids get sick.
We need to start cough & cold preventions as soon as the cold season comes.
Here are some child cough & cold prevention tips for your cute kid, family to prevent colds.
1. Buy tissues, lots of tissues. When I get a cold I get a very runny nose.
So to prevent my nose from getting too sore I like Puffs Plus. They are the softest
tissues I have found. Buy some Kleenex to keep in your car. Pocket packs are also good
to send with your children. Buy some small bottles of hand sanitizer that your child can
take to school. I sent a bottle with my son this week so he could use it after blowing his nose at school.
2. Stock up on essentials like child cough & cold medicine, cough drops, orange juice,
and chicken noodle soup. If your child doesn’t like regular chicken noodle soup try Campbell’s
Dora or Jimmy Neutron. My kids love it.
3. As a cough and cold prevention for child, try to curtail exposure to colds
as much as possible. My sister makes her children wash their hands when they come
home from school or any store.
This way she prevents the germs that have been collected
from taking lodging in her home. Encourage your children
to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before eating.
If you are at high risk talk to your doctor about getting a flu shot.
4. When your child does have a cold and is at home pull out some games,
coloring books, or movies and spend some time with your child. Whenever my
kids are sick they always want extra attention from mom. I find that I spend
a lot of time sitting with them on my lap. Sometimes I read a book while they
watch a movie. They are happy because they are sitting with me and I don’t feel
like I am stuck watching kids movies all day long.
5. Spend as much time as you can outside. Fresh air is good for you.
It clears your lungs and the activity boosts your immune system.
Also make sure that your family is eating healthy and getting plenty of vitamin C.
