Christmas Cooking With Your Kids
by Teresa, The CuteKid™ Staff|
If you are like me, Christmas is a time when I like to
get into the kitchen and cook up sweat treats for my family and
neighbors. But whenever I step into the kitchen and pull out the mixer
my children come running. I usually let them help me with whatever I’m
making, but let’s face it some items are just not kid friendly. Have
you ever let your children help you Directions: Cut up the chocolate and white almond bark. 1. Put the chocolate sandwich cookies, I used a no- name brand but you could also use Oreos, in a large Ziploc bag. Then let your children use a rolling pin to break them into pieces. You don’t want just crumbs so keep an eye on their progress. 2. Melt the chocolate and white almond bark in two separate bowls. Cook on high heat for 90 seconds and then stir, older children can help with this. Then cook the almond bark for an additional 15 seconds and stir until it is completely melted. 3. Add the peanut butter to the while almond bark and stir until it is smooth. 4. Add half of the crushed cookies to the chocolate and half to the white almond bark and stir. 5. Drop spoonfuls of the white and chocolate bark onto a waxed paper covered cookie sheet, alternating flavors. Use a knife and cut through the almond bark to create a marble effect. 6. Let the candy set up in the refrigerator for an hour or until hard. Then break it into pieces. One Christmas chocolate recipe makes an entire cookie sheet of candy. I broke our recipe up into about two-dozen good-sized pieces.
Directions: 1. Cream the peanut butter, shortening, and powdered sugar together until smooth. Then add the rice crispies and mix well. 2. Now comes the fun part shape the mixture into balls. Make sure everyone washes their hands first. Chill the balls for about one hour or until firm. 3. Melt the chocolate almond bark in the microwave for about 20 seconds then stir. Repeat in 5-second intervals until melted. 4. Dip the peanut butter balls one at a time in the chocolate and roll to cover. Place the balls on a cookie sheet spread with wax paper until set. So this holiday season mix up some sweet treats with your kids and make some great memories of Christmas cooking with kids. |
