Meet Regis and Kelly! |
'Live with Regis and Kelly' is a nationally-syndicated broadcast aired live from New York each weekday morning at 9:00 a.m. (ET). This program originally started in 1983 as 'The Morning Show' with Regis Philbin as the host. In 1988, Kathy Lee Gifford joined as Philbin's co-host and the show was re-named 'Live with Regis and Kathy Lee'. When Gifford left in 2000, Philbin hosted the show alone for a year. The show was called 'Live with Regis' until Kelly Ripa, joined as Philbin's co-host in 2001. Since then the show has been called 'Live with Regis and Kelly'. The Regis-Kelly team has been a big hit and ratings for the show soared after Kelly joined as co-host.
Kelly and Regis, individually, are famous in their own right. Regis has hosted several game shows including 'The Neighbors', 'Almost Anything Goes', and one of America's most popular game show 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?' Regis has won two Daytime Emmy Awards-one for Outstanding Talk Show Host and one for Outstanding Game Show Host. Kelly also has won a 'Daytime Emmy Award' for Outstanding Talk Show Host.
About Regis & Kelly
Regis Philbin began his childhood in the Bronx. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a major in Sociology. For a few years he served in the Navy and after that did some behind-the-scenes work in television and radio before settling into a broadcasting career. Philbin began his own show, 'The Regis Philbin Show', in 1964. In 1970, Philbin was the host of 'A.M. Los Angeles', which became the number one TV talk show in LA. Philbin then moved to New York and began hosting 'The Morning Show', which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2008!
Kelly grew up in Stratford, New Jersey, the daughter
of a bus driver and a stay-at-home mom. Early on in
life, Kelly dreamed of making it big in the world of
show biz. In 1990, she bagged a role in the popular
soap opera 'All My Children' where she met her husband,
Mark Consuelos. Married in 1996, they presently have
3 children. In 2000, Kelly gained instant nation-wide
popularity when she became the host of the nationally-syndicated
'Live with Regis
and Kelly!' The public immediately warmed up to Kelly,
who they perceived as someone who was up close and personal.
She became a good example of the modern woman, effectively
managing a successful career, a happy marriage, joyful
motherhood, while still finding time to pack an interesting
talk show which is full of surprises. Kelly also starred
in the sitcom, 'Faith and Hope', which lasted for three
seasons.
Kelly & Regis, together, have been a successful team
on the 'Live with
Kelly and Regis show', ranking third as the most
popular daytime talk show.
