How to Network?
The Entertainment Industry has spread exponentially across the globe in the last 20 years thanks to the recent innovations in media and communications. While the vast majority of the US Entertainment Industry lies within Los Angeles and New York major players in the business can be found residing and scouting for new talent all over North America. Meeting people to advance your career can be done anywhere and must constantly be on your mind. Business cards, zed cards, demo tapes, head shots, and resumes must always be kept close by because you never know who you may run into.
One of the most popular ways to Network is at events that are specifically created for talents that are interested in getting discovered by agents, managers, and casting directors. It also helps to attend events that are in the specific field of entertainment that you’re interested in. For example models should attend as many fashion shows as possible. Make friends, ask for advice, and tag along to shoots. Actors should attend plays and acting classes and make an effort to meet people. Musicians and singers should do like wise. There are always new projects and new faces and talents are always being sought after. Agencies and managers always hope to be the one who discovers the next big star.
Always keep a positive attitude, remember names and ask for business cards but more importantly keep in contact. The Entertainment Industry is notorious for flakes so set your self a part by keeping your word and following up with people even if it’s just to say it was nice to meet you. Meet people, make friends, and make an effort to make a memorable yet professional impression.
