Networking
There’s a famous saying in Hollywood, “It’s all about who you know.” While this saying seems cliché and not very realistic, it does in fact hold some truth. On some occasions you as an actor may have great opportunities just from knowing the right people at the right time. Networking can help boost your career by getting you in front of the right people who have authority over who gets cast on certain projects.
What many actors don’t understand is that casting for television, film, and theatre can be a long arduous process. Thousands of talents can audition for even a supporting role in a major film. Casting Directors and Directors want to find the right person with the least amount of effort. Sometimes being referred by someone at the right time can help you get in front of the people making these decisions. Knowing these people when they’re casting a project that you may be right for can be key to getting a head start and your foot in the door.
There may be networking events in your area and in some cases the connections you can make at these types of events could be well worth traveling outside of your area. Making friends and good impressions when working on projects can also help you meet new people who may be able to help your career.
Also keep in mind that you should always keep a professional and respectful demeanor, the person you’re talking to could hold the key to you breaking into the industy.
