Color Your Baby to SleepMany people have known, intuitively, that the colors around you affect how you feel, and to what degree you may assert yourself. This is now called colorology, or chromatherapy. This is basically, energy that is made visible.
You can use the knowledge of the affects these colors are known to cause, to decorate your babys nursery. Decorating your babys nursery in certain colors can make the difference of how well your baby rests, sleeps and maybe even eat.
The spectrum that we are familiar with of light waves are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. All of these colors are visible in a rainbow or as light refracted through a prism.
Our bodies automatically relate to the most noticeable of all colors ? day and night. As the sun rises and the day light brightens our world, it brings on bright, warm colors and action, along with activity and an increase in metabolic rate. As night nears closer, we start slowing down. The cool dark hues brings us rest and inaction. Thats why we automatically reduce the light at bedtime, or when someone is ill, as it helps their body slow down and sleep comes more easily.
A study was conducted using prisoners who were assigned either red, yellow, blue or green wings. Those in the blue and green wings were less inclined to violence then those in red and yellow wings. It has always been said that blood pressure, rate, and respirations increase around the color red, and decrease the most surrounded by the color black. They decrease moderately under blue and minimally under green.
Color also appears to affect our response to food. Restaurants will use red and orange frequently because they are known appetite stimulates.
In classical Indian philosophy, the seven colors of the rainbow are associated with the seven chakras (or energy centers) of the body. Each chakra is related to a specific body function and has specific effects.

Yellow-Toned Neutrals- Ranging from subtle creams to deep, golden browns, the yellow-toned neutrals are fresh and quietly uplifting.
Blue-Toned Neutrals- From a hint of gray, to smart charcoals, to deep blue-blacks, the blue-toned neutrals offer quiet, unrestrained elegance.
Neutrals such as ochre, charcoal, umber and sienna promotes a restful and soothing atmosphere. True neutrals are classified as black, white and gray (and all shades in between white and black), also called non-colors. They are, essentially, a combination of all the colors in the spectrum.
Neutrals go with everything and clash with nothing. They can be used to create a visual relief in a strong color scheme, or used alone to create a subtle, calming, monochramatic palette.
Black and white provide a sophisticated, modern look, which can be softened depending on how many tones of gray you combine with it.
Its best not to mix the different tones, if you want the most pleasing affect. Staying within the same neutral tones will create a tranquil, elegant and refined look and feel.
Try decorating your babys nursery in the colors of your choice, but be sure to splash bright colors around. Bright colors stimulate a babys senses, helping them to focus and concentrate. Babys need stimulation of their senses, as much as they need rest for their bodies.
