Some agencies do not accept children or only accept children at a certain age, so this is very important to find out.  You can visit their website or call and ask what types of photos are required.

When entering your baby into a baby photo contest remember to take pictures of your baby smiling.  You can upload your baby’s photo on the website, and most of them ask for a small processing fee.

3. Baby Pictures for Modeling Agencies: Modeling agencies normally look for happy smiling babies, along with the baby’s clothing size for modeling work.  Do NOT pay for professional pictures when sending baby pictures into agencies (unless you are taking them anyway for your family album) because babies change so quickly.  Even if you get an agency to represent you, you will have to constantly send in updates to the agencies every couple of months, and professional pictures are not necessary.

a. Is your baby really a model material? If your baby is the happy go lucky types and easily laughs at everything, easy to get along with, then you’re lucky. Baby modeling agencies are in search of babies who are easy to work with.

b. Are you willing to be patient? Not many aspiring models, babies included, get their big break right away. Being the proud parents of a baby model takes a lot of patience. There is always the issue of constant rejection when putting a baby into the world of baby modeling.

c. Ask Around: If you’re not sure where to start your search, Google “Model Agency Your Town” and get a list and start calling to see if they have a Children’s Division.  They key here to finding a legitimate agency is if they charge any upfront fees.  You should not be paying for anything, especially when babies are involved.  They don’t need professional pictures or lessons!!  You can also read books based on baby modeling.

d. Bring Your Own Photos: A legitimate modeling agency will never require you to pay for your child to get pictures.

Each confirmed Semi-Finalist will receive one (1) Macy’s First Impressions or Greendog outfit by mail on or about August 4, 2009 (See Semi-Finalist Prize section, below).  Semi-Finalists will be invited to upload to the Contest website, on or before August 11, 2009, one (1) additional photograph of the Semi-Finalist’s child wearing the Macy’s outfit.  UPLOAD OF THIS PHOTOGRAPH IS COMPLETELY OPTIONAL.  Any such photographs submitted by Semi-Finalists will BE DISPLAYED ON THE CONTEST WEBSITE BUT WILL not be USED OR CONSIDERED IN ANY WAY IN THE CONTEST JUDGING PROCESS.

Second Round – on or about July 24, 2009, a qualified panel of judges appointed by Sponsor will select ten (10) Finalists—(five (5) Finalists from the 3 month to 24 month category and five (5) Finalists from the 25 month to 6 year category) from the forty (40) semi-finalists by applying the same judging criteria as used in the First Round to the five (5) additional photos submitted by the Semi-Finalists.

If a tie occurs in either round, the entry from among the tied entries having the highest score in the criterion of overall appearance of child will be deemed the winner.  Decisions of judges are final and binding in all respects.

The ten (10) Finalists will be notified by email and telephone on or about July 27, 2009. To be eligible as a Finalist, each Finalist child and one (1) parent or guardian will be required to travel to New York for a Parents photo shoot (travel provided by Sponsor as part of Contest prize – see Prizes section below for details), departing on August 9, 2009 and returning on August 11, 2009.  Failure to attend the photo shoot and/or travel on specified dates will result in disqualification.  Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may disqualify a Finalist for any reason, including without limitation, behavior of Finalist’s child at the photo shoot.

Third Round – on or about September 1, 2009, qualified judges appointed by Sponsor will select two (2) Grand Prize winners, one from each age group, based on appearance of child as shown in the photo(s) from the photo shoot (50%) and personality of child as expressed through the photo(s) from the photo shoot (50%).  In event of a tie, the photos of the tied Finalists from the photo shoot will be re-judged according to the criteria listed above by an additional judge who will serve as the tiebreaker.

SEMI-FINALISTS
Each of the forty (40) Semi-Finalists will receive a Macy’s First Impressions or Greendog outfit (brand of outfit depends on age/size of Semi-Finalist), approximate retail value (“ARV”) $75.00 and a $50.00 Macy’s gift card.  Gift card subject to issuer restrictions.  Total ARV $125.00 per semi-finalist.
FINALISTS

Appearance on the cover of Parents magazine is subject to availability.  Sponsor is not responsible for any circumstances that make it impractical or impossible to fulfill this element of the prize.  This element of the prize has no retail value, and if it becomes impractical or impossible to fulfill this element, Sponsor’s only obligation will be to provide the remainder of the prize.

How do I enter?

The entry form is included on the page where you enter your photos. As long as you add your photos to the appropriate age category of the Magazine Cover Contest, complete the Photo Contest Information section, and follow the Official Rules, your photos will be entered in the contest.

How is the winner chosen?

The Parents magazine judges will review all of the entries and choose 40 semi-finalists (20 from each age category). Semi-finalists will be selected based on the criteria set forth in the Official Rules. Semi-finalists will be asked to provide more pictures for consideration, and then five finalists from each age category will be selected to fly to New York City for a professional photo shoot from August 9-11, 2009. Two of the photos (one from each age category) will be selected for the November 2009 dual cover.

How will the photos be judged?

As it says in the Official Rules, judging will be “based on overall appearance of the child as shown in the photo(s), personality of child as expressed through the photo(s), and quality of photo(s).”

Will the judges really look at all entries?

Yes, they really are looking at all entries.

Can I enter my twins together?

Twins must be entered separately. Although they may look alike, a set of twins can have totally different temperaments and have a different presence in front of the camera.

Can I enter a professional photograph?

Photos must be taken by entrant, non-professional, unpublished and may not have won any prize or award.

Do the ratings and recommendations play any part in deciding the winner?

No, they do not.

I know they don’t count toward winning the contest, but how can people vote for my photo?

Users can vote for photos to express support for certain entries, but these votes have no bearing on semifinalist or winner selection.

Why won’t my photo upload?

First, check that your photo is the right size and file type (photos must be .jpg or .bmp and under 3 MB). During periods of heavy traffic, some users may experience very slow load times or not be able to upload their photo at all. In this case, it’s best to wait a few hours and then come back and try again.

I can’t find my photo! Help!

To find your photo, go back to the Parents.com photo area (www.parents.com/photos) and click the View My Photos button at the top right to see all of your galleries.

Click on the thumbnail to see your gallery, or click “Tell a friend” to e-mail friends and family a direct link to your gallery (see screen shot below).

I added my child’s gallery to the wrong category. Is there any way to transfer it over to the Parents Magazine Cover Model Search?

Unfortunately, no. You must re-upload your gallery in the Cover Model Search category.

If my child is chosen as a finalist, can the rest of my family join us in New York City, provided we pay for their expenses?

Yes, but Parents magazine/Meredith Corp. will only pay for one child and one guardian.

I accidentally clicked on x star instead of x star — can I undo?

No you cannot undo a rating. Remember, per the official rules, ratings and recommendations do not have any bearing on the selection of winners.

I uploaded my picture but it won’t fit in the thumbnail and it won’t shrink.

The shrink feature is to allow you to shrink your photo back to original size once you’ve grown it. You cannot shrink the thumbnail photo to be smaller than the original that was uploaded. If you want more of your photo to show in the thumbnail view, you’ll need to resize in a photo editing tool.

I select the photo I want to upload on my computer. The thumbnail box is empty and my picture never displays.

Most likely you have a photo that is too large. Try resizing the photo using a photo editing tool and resubmit.
