Avoid Baby Modeling Scams – Don’t Let Scammers Take Advantage of You
Posted on 02. Feb, 2010 by admin in Advice, Break into Showbiz, Model & Actor Tips, Model Agencies
A baby modeling agency is a business and just any other business, they need to make money. But a legitimate agency doesn’t make money by charging you a fee upfront for their services. If you come across a baby modeling agency that wants you pay upfront, you should avoid them at all costs. Legitimate agencies make their money by earning it. In other words, they are paid on commission. When one of the babies they manage gets a job, then they get a percentage of the earnings. If you want to avoid baby modeling scams, then stay from any company that tries to charge you from the get go.
Other baby modeling scams include agencies that advertise themselves as having “no fees” then they proceed to charge you outrageous prices for photos. Plus they make the photos mandatory, so you are stuck. A true professional baby modeling agency won’t even ask you to get professional of your baby done because they simply don’t want them. The fact that the scammers were advertising themselves as having “no fees” should always a tip off that something fishy is going on. The good agencies don’t advertise in the first place because they don’t need to.
Of all the baby modeling scams that are out there, this one should be easy to spot. No baby modeling company would ever ask you to sign your child up for modeling classes. They are not going to help a baby in the slightest. Another scam to watch out for is people asking you to pay a fee to attend an open casting call, usually located in another city. The people that do this are usually found strolling through a mall or shopping center, pretending to work as an agency scout. They stop and tell you that your baby has something special that can make them a star. Then they tell you about a casting call or convention somewhere that you can attend, but you need to pay now. The sad thing, they sometimes get people who fall for it and hand over thousands of dollars on the spot.
Another baby modeling scam that is conducted by those same thieves who hang out in malls occurs after telling you they are a scout for such and such agency. They then proceed to compliment your child. Then you are told to go to a location for a trial photo shoot or a screen test. After filling out forms and contracts, you are then slapped with a bill totaling hundreds of dollars to cover those trials shoots.

I went last night to the “The Event” audition in Parisippany, New Jersey for my son. It was our first experience in this area. At first I was OK with it, because I figure I don’t know any better so go along with it. They showed us a movie from a previous Event with actors from Disney shows.
After the “national Director” who complained that he was tired from a very long day got rude and cranky I started to think maybe not. Your talking to a room full parents that are there with children ranging in ages from 6 and up at 9pm after being awake since 6am too. Who is tired! They may be legal but it doesn’t make it right. Why should I have to pay in full four months ahead of time.
Do I believe that only a handful of people are being accepted, NO. I think only a handful are going to email them back to see if they have been formally invited because we been threatened that if your not serious don’t waste their time. How do you know if your serious if you have no guidance. To me asking for an answer within 24 hours is not cool. I think they do that so families don’t have the time to think it through. Your not talking about $50.00 your talking thousands! Not for me. I will do it the hard way.

My wife and I attended a ‘Tay’ event (spelled ‘The’) with our daughter on April 16, 2011. The pitch was very slick. When we were interviewed by the ‘National Director’ (or whatever her title was), one of the first questions we were asked is ‘can you afford to attend the next level event in Orlando?’ After we said ‘maybe, yes’ she became much friendlier and she even gave us her ‘personal number’ to call her the next day to determine whether our daughter made the cut (we assumed she had been magically ‘chosen’ because we said we could afford the trip). Also, it was wierd that when they were interviewing the kids, they projected the camera onto a large screen at the front of the auditorium. Throughout the interviews, we saw things like ‘Standy’ and ‘Insert Tape’ show up on the screen. And parents were not allowed to get close to the camera. Our daughter said they had a very bright light in front of the camera preventing her from noticing whether the red camera ‘recording’ light was actually ‘on.’ Deep in my gut, I have a suspicion that ‘The’ is not truely legit but is really offering a week down in Orlando at a Disney resort for those who can afford it, with some ‘lessons’ perhaps about acting I don’t know.

“THE” is a scam. You can’t even find them legitametely on the web unless you know their secret website address.
After your audition, which they barely look at or listen to your child, you are called back and asked for $5,000 to go to the next “level”.
The price continues to go up from there. My kid is only seven, but has a deep desire to act and begged me to take him. He did a bang up job, yet no one seemed to notice. Money was their only concern.
Don’t pay this kind of money that will lead to no where. If you have a sick feeling in your gut about some “talent agency” listen to it…you’re probably right!

I wish everyone here much success! All children are beautiful and are a gift from above. We should always cherish them, and teach them to reach for the stars! We should also teach them daily that they can achieve anything they set their minds to and work at.
peace & love!

Bizzy Bayz is a SCAM
07. Jan, 2011
It’s a complete SCAM! There “so called agents” come on tese sites and lead everyone to the above page. Little do these parents know it’s them adding comments to that page, and removing all the bad ones. They take your money, do your book, keep in contact you foa a month, say they submitted for so many jobs, then all contact stops. Do your research! Call companies around them. Call the magazines they supposibly work with. You will find out the truth! I was scammed along with many others, please don’t let yourself be next. You can also check out the BBB, where they have a grade of F!

‘the’ IS completely real. I have talked to PLENTY of kids that attended it prior to me and seen commercials they have been on. If you are complaining about the price it is only so high because you are paying for some of the best agencies managers and casting directors to come stay at the same place where you are performing. it is not a talent show. its a plain audition. its nothing scammed. in the callback meeting it was thoroughly explained

@ F. Hi, I have heard of NEW FACES, its a website. The scam isn’t the site, its the people that take the pictures and want you to pay to become a member of this site, which is a list of casting calls. I believe if you get a hold of the ppl that took the pictures you can get a release form for those pictures. They then become yours and no one can use them without your consent.

By the way, a friend’s daughter also was asked, but they couldn’t afford it. The rep really believed she had a good shot at receiving attention if she went, so they gave a payment extension to this family.

My son made it to The as well in Austin. Only 15 kids were selected. It’s not a scam–they are very upfront about what it is; it’s basically like a workshop where talented kids the scouts think have a decent shot are given the opportunity to train with professionals & then audition for casting directors & talent agents. The talent agent the kids read for in Austin is actually known in L.A. (Seth Green’s agent.) It’s an invitation-only event, thus the need for auditions. Yes, it’s costly. Will my son move on to anything else? I have no idea. But he’s actually auditioned for Disney & was encouraged to do this. So we’ll see.

we attend to a “free audition” in Tampa and they give you a PACKET to read and ask you to call back next day after you read it.
I need to paid between $2000 – $8000 today and paid in full so our child can go to ORLANDO the event of her life… yeah right!!
At the initial interview at the Westin, they used “ringer” volunteers from the audience to example what would be expected of those prospective actors and actresses in this initial “casting tryout.” They dropped names like, “Miley Cyrus” and “the Patenthood” as being the benificiaries of their expertice. In the phone-in radio contest, from which our daughter won her place at the photo-opt/audition, in the program it was alluded that most likely Hanna Montanna would be there for a photo-opt.
What a scam!! I can not believe the 103.5 FM Tampa, Florida would be party to such deception. Our daughter didn’t win a prize, let alone an opportunity to meet Miley Cyrus. All she won was an opportunity to shell-out her parents money to het a room at the Disney Resorts for a week in an Orlando/Disney based off-season racket to keep its Hotel Rooms full.

Misty and Ruby. I’m a single parent and also was us received a call from The(tay) regarding my daughter talent and the screen yesterday at Marriot Hotel on 75 nth of the Galleria. They want me to come by today and give the a credit card for a $6900 charge to go to Orlando and show case my daughters talent. I am also have my reservations about the “talent scout company” who wantes to be paid ASAP. I have been surching for more information about this group all morning. And Ruby mentioned basically the same thing. If this “Talen scout Company” is so great why do we has Parents have to pay immediately??? Has anyone else heard about this scouting group cause this is Dallas, Texas and we can not all ourselves to be SCAMED. Happy Mother’s Day to ALL.

It is a shame that there are so many out there. We were taken by “company” that says they are in FL,NY and La. They are only in Fl and they lie through teir teeth about everything. Watch out for them. The only good thing is we received a list of modeling agencies in FL,GA, Chicago and NY. We are being looked at by two agencies.

You are so right! There was this supposed to be modeling agency that came to Motgomery and I took my daughter they wanted money up front. I fell for it and they sent me a bill for five hundred dollars. I was lied to and I refuse to pay them the pics were not even good.
